About

Dr Borut Petek is a global affairs executive and policy researcher bridging the worlds of business, governance, and technology. As a Visiting Policy Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute, he is pursuing postdoctoral research on how platforms such as TikTok and Telegram are used to influence elections, and on policy and governance solutions to counter foreign interference.

He currently serves as Chief Global Affairs Officer at Superbet Group, a Blackstone-backed entertainment and technology company, and as Partner at Hellen’s Rock Capital. In addition, he is Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee and a Member of the Board at Fortenova Group, employing over 50,000 people across Southeast Europe.

Dr Petek previously served as a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s Department of Government, where his PhD research explored the intersection of technology, policy, and election integrity. Earlier in his career, he served in the Office of the Prime Minister of Slovenia, working closely with the Prime Minister in two administrations.

Research Interests

platform governance, election integrity, disinformation, and policy design to counter foreign interference. Focus on trust & safety, algorithmic accountability, and emerging technologies like TikTok and Telegram.
